Celebrities are in the spotlight and people look up to us, but at times people can say very hurtful things. We’re not super-human, and things can hurt our feelings. I recently I took a Twitter break because fans say really mean things on there. I don’t know why Miley Cyrus doesn’t have a Twitter any more, I’m not sure why, but I think that the fans need to understand that we’re human too, and if you don’t like us, if you don’t like my music or if you don’t like the way I act, that’s totally fine. I don’t expect everyone to like me. I don’t expect everyone to think that I’m talented in certain areas. People have different tastes. But keep it to yourself. If you’re going to put out energy towards something, put out energy for something positive or don’t put it out at all, because all it does is tear other people down.

There’s days when I call Demi Lovato and I’m crying and I’m like, “Listen, this fan said something that was just really rude.” And she’s like, “I know. It happens to me all the time and there’s just people out there that do that.” It does come with the territory. We expect it, but I’m lucky to have people like Demi in my life and Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and friends that go through the same thing that I can talk to about it, and they can give me advice and vice versa.

Tiffany Thornton: Friends First

I enjoy going on dates. I think it’s fun getting to know people. But It takes a lot for me to say yes to go on a date. I think that you have to establish a friendship first. I’m very bold. If I like someone I just tell them. But if someone were to come up to me and be like, “Hey, I want to go on a date with you” and I didn’t know them at all, I would probably say no because that’s not a safe choice for me to go on a date with someone I don’t know. But if they’re friends with me or if we become friends, then just ask once you feel a bit of chemistry has been established. I don’t want to lead someone on and go on a date with them if I don’t feel like I could end up dating them on a serious level. But you know, being bold once you get to be friends with someone and if you want to go on a date with them, just tell them. What’s the worst they can say? “You know, I just don’t really see this going that way. I’d rather just be friends.” Like who cares? There’s plenty of fish in the sea, right?

Tiffany Thornton: Positive Person

I try to stay positive. My faith is very important to me, so any time where I do feel like where, you know, I know that the industry can get to people. I know that it can be overwhelming because at certain points in your career people tend to only care about your career and your whole existence becomes your job. And sometimes it can be hard for people to separate themselves from that. Like people who are really, really famous, they don’t really have places where they can just escape to where no one knows them.

I’m kind of fortunate at this point in my career where I’m not really, really famous, so I can still go places and people don’t know who I am. I think it’s important to surround yourself with good people and to always have that foundation so that when you walk in a room they ask other questions like, “Do you want to talk about politics? Do you want to talk about religion? Would you like to talk about the weather?” You know, just things that don’t necessarily pertain to the job that you do, because for we’re on set, 13 hours when you’re performing and you’re on tour, and you’re having all these interviews. You’re constantly exposed to speaking about your career. Having people around you that don’t necessarily ask you those same questions I think is important.

And I have my family. My family’s amazing. I’m very blessed. And my faith. Like when I’m having a tough day I just pray about it, or I have this book called 100 Favorite Bible Verses - every time I open that it turns to one that pertains to whatever I’m going through that day.

I love to be in love. My three best friends and I once drove from College Station, Texas to Sarasota, Florida because my boyfriend was living in Florida at the time and I was home for the summer. So we took a road trip. We drove all the way. We drove through the night and through the next day. It took us forever to get there, but when I got there he was like, “I have some friends that have a place and you guys can stay with them or you can stay at my mom’s house or whatever.” And I was like, “There’s four of us.” And he said, “Don’t worry. I’ll figure it out.” So when I got there he had paid for a house right on the beach. It had a pool and two bedrooms, it had a kitchen and everything. It was really, really nice. So he surprised my friends and I when we got there. It was probably one of the greatest vacations ever.

Tiffany Thornton: College Station, Texas

I lived in Houston until I was 11 and then I moved to College Station, Texas. So I spent most of my years that were developmental as far as becoming an adult in College Station. It’s near Texas A & M University, so it’s a college town. My grandfather was mayor back I think, in the early 8os before I was around. And he was actually dean of students at Texas A & M for like 15 years or 12 years or something crazy like that. And then when I lived in town, my grandparents they raised me for like half of my life. So I got to live with them from 8th grade on.

I was a cheerleader and I played tennis and basketball when I was in junior high. And it’s just a pretty cool place. It can be a little boring because it’s small, but that’s okay. I’d rather have a place to go home to that can be a little boring than a place that I can go home to that’s hectic.

I would have to say the biggest moment that shaped me into who I am today was picking up all my stuff in Texas and moving to L.A. I wanted to sing at a competition out here in L.A. when I came for a week and signed with my agent and they said we want you to move to L.A. to pursue a career if that’s what you want to do. And so I did. The summer after my junior year of high school I moved out here.

Tiffany Thornton: Sonny With A Chance

I play Tawni Heart and she’s a little crazy. She has “only child syndrome” I would call it, where she was raised where she should be the center of attention. We have a couple episodes when my mom comes in – my mom on the show obviously – who spoiled me as Tawni. Sonny comes in and Tawni sees her as a threat, so Tawni does whatever she can to make Sonny feel inadequate. I don’t think she’s a hateful person necessarily, but I do think that she’s just threatened by Sonny. She’s beautiful and talented and all that sort of stuff, so she just wants to put Sonny in her place. But eventually she tends to let her guard down a little, but at first she’s quite the diva.

Currently starring as Tawni Hart on the Disney Channel’s Sonny With A Chance, Tiffany is one sunny person indeed.
