I can’t stand people… being two-faced.

Hollywood is… hard.

I’m inspired by… My family, my parents. Every day, I wake up and I just want to make them proud. I talk to my parents 50 million times a day. They know everything. They know what I’ve eaten for every meal.

Success means… just being able to support myself doing what I love.

I would really like to go to… Haiti and help rebuild some of the buildings and just go over there and just help them because they need so much help right now.

My rules for love are… you just always have to be treated respect; someone who respects you, respects your values and respects your family. And the way a guy treats his mother is always a really good sign of how he’ll treat his wife.

I would love to work with… there’s a lot. I love Rachel McAdams. She’s my favorite. Rachel McAdams, Robert Downey Jr. would be amazing. I’m kind of obsessed with Tanning Tatum right now. There’s so many. Meryl Streep, obviously.

Melissa Ordway: On Miley Cyrus

I love Miley so much. We were on an island in southern Georgia called Tybee Island for the summer and we all became so close, the whole cast. She’s just like a normal girl. When I first met her, I thought she would be completely this super diva and everything like that, but she was nothing like that. When you meet her, it’s like you’ve known her forever. She’s just a normal girl. We all had so much fun. We just hung out, sang karaoke, and watched movies. It was a fun, fun summer.

She’s so talented, and she’s so sweet, and she’s just very professional. She’s a workaholic. When she wasn’t filming, she was trying to record songs for the movie. It was exciting when she had a chance to kind of just hang out because she’s just a busy girl. She has more energy than anyone I’ve ever known. I don’t know how she does it.

And she can dance. I’m a horrible dancer, so she was trying to teach me how to dance, We were all out one night at this random place that had like a live band playing. She was trying, she was like, “No that’s not how you do it,” which did not go well.

Melissa Ordway: The Last Song

It’s based on a Nicholas Sparks novel which I was so ecstatic when I got the role because I’m a huge Notebook fan. I think it’s my all-time favorite movie.

The Last Song is about Miley Cyrus. She is having some issues with her father, so her mom sends her away for the summer to go spend with her dad and kind of work things out. It’s a story of a girl kind of growing up over the course of a summer. She comes down to Savannah to spend the summer with her dad and she falls in love with Liam Hemsworth ,who is my boyfriend. And he falls in love with her. Yes, another love triangle.

He ends up falling in love with her, and so he kind of dumps me, but his family still wants him to be with me because I am this rich southern belle and she’s from New York and she’s a lot edgier than I am.

It’s basically a love story about her and him falling in love over the summer, and also her dealing with her dad, and things that are going on with that whole relationship. I play someone that makes her life not easy over the summer.

Melissa Ordway: Suppressed Bad Girl Sexiness

I actually auditioned for Melrose Place for Ashley Simpson’s role way back in the day, but then they ended up offering it to Ashley Simpson. Then I came back in and I read for Lauren, but they thought that I looked a little bit too beachy and not doctor-ish enough. And so, I ended up not getting that. At the time I was so upset and was like, “Oh, my gosh. I really wanted to be a part of the show,” and I was crying. But then, you just realize that everything happens for a reason. If I had gotten Ashley’s role, I wouldn’t have been able to do The Last Song, so everything happens for a reason.

Everyone on Melrose Place is so great, so they’ve been kind of trying to figure out a place for me where I could come in and do something fun. Up until now, it hadn’t really worked out. It’s a really fun role. Normally I play like high school sexy and high school sexy is very different from Melrose Place sexy. I was excited to be a little bit older and a little bit more of a troublemaker. I have two sides to me. I have the innocent side when I’m with my dad and then I have this other vampy me, which is like just a total sex kitten.

I think that maybe underneath I have all this suppressed, sexy troublemaker inside of me because I’m totally a goofball in real life. I’m a little meek person. I’m like goof all, not sexy at all. I’m just totally like the good girl that never had attention. I never got in trouble or anything growing up. I think all of the suppressed bad girl sexiness comes out when I play this character because I just had so much fun to shoot – so different from me. This is why I think that’s why it’s so great to be an actress because you get to do things that you would never normally do.

And I do a lot of kissing with Shaun, so that is never a hard day at work.

Melissa Ordway: The Assistant

My mom had read something online about a show on MTV about making it in the entertainment industry and I always wanted to be an actress forever. I was taking theater classes in high school and college. My mom’s like, “You should just send in a tape and just try it out.” I sent in the tape and I never thought that anyone ever, ever watched my tape, especially sending it from Snellville Georgia, which is just crazy to think that I could ever come to LA and do anything. They called me like six months later and they’re like, “We want you to come and fly to LA and try and be on the show to do the final interviews.”

I end up getting on the show. The premise was to be Andy Dick’s assistant, which I had no idea, really, who Andy Dick was when I got it. They had told us an A-List celebrity was going to help us, so I was thinking like P Diddy or Ashton Kutcher or someone like that. We get out of the limo and we’re like, “Who is this guy?” We had no idea.

The premise of the show was to be the assistant, but in reality I don’t think anyone would want to win. And then I end up winning it, which was crazy. It’s weird when you’re on the show because now, when I watch reality shows, I get it more because they isolate you. People were backstabbing people. We were literally only able to kind of talk to each other and we didn’t have a TV. It’s weird because I think people thought that the way to win was to be mean, and kind of backstabbing and twisted about it, but being nice ended up getting me ahead.

And so, I won a job on MTV, but I also got a modeling agent and everything out here from the show. So then I moved out here to work at MTV. I was sitting behind a desk and that was just not what I wanted to do at all, so I ended up leaving that job and then I just started modeling and then the modeling took me into the whole acting world. It’s ultimately what I wanted to do.

Melissa Ordway: Frenemies and First Boyfriend

I had a really tough, high school, middle school and high school years because I was not popular and people made fun of me. I had a lot of frenemies – people who pretend to be your friend and then are really not. I had friends – people who I thought were my friends and then, two seconds later they’d go and talk bad about me behind my back.

I was kind of nerdy. I was in theater and I didn’t have a boyfriend until my senior year of high school and he was in the band. He broke up with me, and I was devastated, and I was going to do anything I ever could possibly do to get this guy back. It’s all these little stages of emotions where you’re sweet, and then you’re angry, and then you’re nice, and then you’re really mean again. I was a senior in high school and I just thought when we broke up, my world was going to end. It took me awhile.

It took me probably way too long. When he finally got another girlfriend, I think that was when I was kind of like, “You know what? I just really have to give up on this because obviously, it’s not going to happen.” So, it took me – he didn’t date for a while, but it really took me a long time to kind of have that realization of like, “This is over. I just need to get over this because I’m the one that’s starting to look crazy now.”

I think everyone has to go through that, too, where they have this relationship you think it’s – especially when you’re young and you don’t know any better and you think, “This is it,” but you have so much more life to live, especially when you’re in high school. You don’t even realize what’s still to come.

Everyone’s been hurt in a relationship and sometimes that hurt comes out as being mean, and angry and it’s really just the underneath all of that that your feelings are hurt because you just lost this guy who you thought was the best thing in the whole world.

Melissa Ordway: Melrose Place

I play Morgan. David Breck, who is played by Shaun Sipos– is trying to have his last break-in so he can kind of come clean and he doesn’t have to live on the wild side any more. He wants to have a real job and not be bad anymore. He ends up breaking into my father’s house, and he’s stealing a ring, and it was like his last break in, and I end up catching him.

But instead of turning him into the police, we have a nice little rendezvous and it ends up going for a little while. I don’t want to turn him into my dad who is in a mob type situation, or to the police, because I think he’s cute. So we have kind of a relationship, but then he doesn’t want to be with me, so there’s like a love triangle there. He’s trying to make this decision between me and Lauren, but he’s torn because he doesn’t want to get turned into the police. I’m basically blackmailing him to date me is kind of a long story short.

I actually didn’t watch too much of the original series because I wasn’t allowed. My mom would let me watch 90210, but she thought Melrose Place was a little too risqué for me at the time. But I’ve seen some since. I watched a lot of the first season of Melrose Place so I could figure out who was who and what was going on. I also watched the newer 90210 and that helped. But the biggest help was watching this Melrose Place because it’s different than the older one.
