Where I grew up – elementary school, middle school and high school were on the same block. When you started at the beginning you might as well have just gone to the same school the entire time, because every single person that lived there went there. So any kind of weird nickname you got in middle school or elementary school is going to stay with you for the entire time. It was horrible pretty much. In middle school I had really short hair like a boy.Â I had no curves. I was not feminine in any way. My nickname was Dan.

I had no boyfriend. I sat alone at the lunch table. I was in band, which didn’t help at all. I picked out my own outfits from a very early age. My mom was a seamstress so she would sew my outfits. I would just make up stuff and she would make it for me. So I’d wear these spandex pants and t-shirts, it was ridiculous.

High school I started to come into my own. I started to model a little bit on the side and I started to date guys outside the school. And so everyone was kind of like, “Wait a second. This was the ugly girl we called Dan and she can’t be hot now.” That didn’t work, that didn’t register for anyone.

Dawn Olivieri: Comic-Con

Comic-Con was ridiculous. It was so humbling in so many ways. It was my first panel that I’ve been invited to sit on, and to jump in on a show that’s been going forward – this is the fourth season now and there are so many dedicated fans. I mean, walking out there and screaming and yelling – I swear I felt like, no one knows me. They don’t know me. I’ve never been on the show. My character’s brand new. So me going out there, I kind of felt like I was sneaking out on stage. Like someone’s going to catch me. It was just unreal. Sci-fi fans continue to shock me. I mean, I’ve been on a few Sci-fi shows, which I love and I hope that when I get my own show one day it will be a Sci-fi. I just love it and I love the fans. It’s amazing to me how intense they are and how much they love what they love.

Dawn Olivieri: What Happened to the Alpha Men?

I always complain that there’s not enough alpha guys left, because I like “guys, guys”. I like guys that wake up, splash some water on their face and they’re just like, “Oh man”, and then they leave. I like guys that go out and do things. I like guys that build stuff. I like guys that are very self-confident so they can come up to you and be themselves and not try to work a line in. I hate that, because I can smell fake a mile away, and I just love guys that are true to themselves.

I went on a date recently with a guy that talked about himself so much I had no time to talk about anything else besides more about him. That was terrible. Another thing would be anything that tips the groupie alarm. Because if a guy’s talking too much about my work or what I do, then obviously he has what we call it “groupietis,” because guys can be groupies too for sure.

At the end of the day, if the girl’s going to like you, she’s going to like you for who you really are and you shouldn’t be trying to tack on all of these extras, because we know. Maybe we can’t pinpoint it or articulate it, but we know.

Dawn Olivieri: Five Hour Walk

I remember this guy – I don’t even remember being that serious about him in high school. But I think he literally walked to see me one day for 5 hours from his house. He lived so far, and he had no car because he was completely broke, and I remember him getting to me and I remember asking him, “How did you get here?” He’s sweating and this is in Florida – it’s hot in Florida. A five hour walk to see a girl, I couldn’t believe it.Â I was so – then you have to hang out with him. He’s not like gonna just leave and go. He literally walked 5 hours to my house.

Poor thing. I remember I think he had issues at home and I think it was probably just a nice release, and he enjoyed my company and he was really passionate. Just a nice guy. It was high school. We didn’t do anything, we just kind of hung out.

Dawn Olivieri: Tattoos All Over Her Body

I don’t care if it took three hours to put these things on. I love them. I keep them on as long as they’ll last. It takes about two hours, give or take. Sometimes they like to put them on the day before and if we need to replace a piece here, a piece there, they’ll do that the day of.

There was a tattoo artist that was brought in specifically to create the artwork. He came and he did a wax template of my arm with wax paper. He traced all of the spaces that he wanted to put the tattoos in, and then he went home and he created all these tattoos.Â Then they put them into a computer program and print them out. Then they spray the tattoo with adhesives so they can apply it onto me.

Then they spray another layer of this body adhesive called Green Marble. It’s the stickiest, nastiest stuff you ever had to put on yourself. They have two layers of that and then this powder goes on it. After that, this special lotion, and then we’re good to go.

On September 21, “Heroes” returns with its fourth season and a brand-new volume – “Redemption.” As the dust settles from last season, our heroes attempt to settle back into their ordinary lives. But, as they will quickly discover, it’s not easy to go home again. They will face one pressing question: how do extraordinary people lead ordinary lives?

In “Volume 4: Fugitives,” our heroes made an attempt to return to their normal lives – but that attempt was cut short when Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) uncovered a deadly plot orchestrated by one of their own – Senator Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar). After revealing to the government that there were people with special abilities, Nathan spearheaded an initiative to capture and imprison those people and used Noah Bennet a.k.a. H.R.G. (Jack Coleman). Lives were torn apart. H.R.G.’s own marriage was destroyed. Tracy Strauss (Ali Larter) was killed — literally shattered into frozen pieces. Ultimately, it was Nathan who paid the price for his misdeeds – murdered at the hands of Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), devastated at the loss of her son, and H.R.G., in need of an ally within the government, convinced Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) to use his ability to repair the damage. Matt used mind control and forced Sylar to shapeshift into Nathan, while erasing Sylar’s own memories so he truly believed he was Nathan. Now, as far as everyone else knows, Nathan is alive and well. And Sylar is gone. But all of that is about to change…

Dawn on her character Lydia: “Lydia is an empath. Her power is kind of broad because unlike some of the other characters, she can do a multitude of things. She has pretty much full body tattoos on and the tattoos, when prompted by whatever it is inside of her, can pull up pictures of the future or things that are going to happen. The way that it’s played out in the show is that they are things that need to be seen. Not always what you want to see, but things that need to be seen. I look at her like an oracle, like the girl with the magic ball that can kind of see whatever comes to her.”
