Sarah Hyland: Modern Family

49020462First there was the Bunkers, then then Bundys, and now the Dunphys. A mockumentary-style look into what it is like to be a family in today’s society, Modern Family is already being hailed as a classic after only thirteen episodes.

Sarah: “I play a 15 year old – Haley Dunphy. I’m turning 19 next week, so it’s really nothing new for me. When I was 16, I played a 12 year old, so whatever. Haley is one of those typical suburban girls that does her hair and does her makeup and she likes boys and she thinks her mom is annoying and stupid and her dad is annoying and stupid. She’s just a very stereotypical, somewhat rebellious teenager.

Every day is like a circus there. The whole cast – they’re like stand up comics. I feel so dull on the set because they’re all so funny. Whenever we have like really big, family scenes where everyone’s there, Julie, who plays my mom, she always makes fun of Sophia, who plays my step-grandma. And Sophia goes along with it.  Julie is always like, ‘Do you ever get to wear like cardigans or capris or just baggy jeans for work? Or do they always put you in these low cut busty dresses.’ And Sophia’s like, ‘No. I always wear heels. No sweater for me. I’m too good for that. My boobs are too good.’ They go back and forth, back and forth like it’s just – it’s so funny.  I crack up every day on set.”
