Paula Garces: Colombian Paradise
I grew up in New York until I was five and then I went to Colombia. I was there for four or five years. It’s probably the best decision my mom had ever made.
I went to school on a farm and most of the science, and math and reading was done outside in nature. So I pretty much learned outside. Instead of playing tennis or whatever, we rode horses and we swam in the river. It was just a pretty, magical place and time for me.
I think the first thing that people should really understand about Colombia is that it’s a very, very beautiful place. The landscape is gorgeous. And even though the country has been at war for more than 50 years, people are very open, and ready to love and trust. That legacy of war,and drugs and all of that is not at all what the country or the people from there should represent.
