Monica Raymund: Lie To Me Techniques in Real Life
We are a little hyperbolic on the show. These things are not easy to catch. These things happen in fractions of a microsecond, so it takes a real trained eye, but there are things called macro-expressions as opposed to micro-expressions. Micro-expressions are hand shrugs, shoulder shrugs, hand rubbing, things that are actually quite physical and deliberate actions that can give off a tell or express a lie or a truth. Having learned a little bit about those, those are much easier to spot.
For example, I was having a meeting with this guy and I saw that he shrugged his hand so I knew that whatever he was telling me was off somehow. He was leaving something out – it wasn’t the full truth. So every now and then it comes in handy, especially when I’m meeting my agent.
