Megan Park: The Secret Life Of The American Teenager
It starts out season one following this character Amy who is 15 and gets pregnant. It also follows this group of six kids at her school going through different problems, but mainly focusing on this teenage pregnancy and how it affects everybody. It’s pretty risqué, but in an educational and cool way.
I play Grace Bowman, the total opposite of Amy, like a total good girl, saving herself for marriage, dating this guy who is a football player. She’s the head cheerleader, her parents are really religious. Then she goes through a whole bunch of changes through the seasons. Her father passes away, she starts questioning her religion, the boyfriend. It basically follows real teenagers going through real issues. I think that’s why kids respond to it.
I’m probably the most like Grace out of any of the characters. I have a theory that usually people get cast in a character because on some level they can relate to it. Everybody on our show who plays their character has a lot of similarities. But I’m definitely not as straight-edged as her, and I’m not as goody two shoes. But yeah, I’m a lot like her. She is very positive and outgoing. I think people see that in me too for the most part.
This next season we have an episode coming up called, “Just Say Me”. It’s when I start a club about not having sex with other people, about having sex with yourself and it’s called, “Just Say Me” and when I read the episode title I was like, “You are kidding me.” I’m so embarrassed to say these things and do this episode.” There’s a scene where I’m in the cafeteria and I stand up and I tell everybody about this club and start chanting about it and I was pretty embarrassed to do that with everybody starting at me. I’m really embarrassed for my parents to see that episode.
