Sometimes when you start speaking more languages, you start thinking in them. I’ve dreamed in Hebrew and sometimes in Portuguese when I was speaking it a lot. Speaking these languages isn’t just something for me to able to say, “Oh, it’s cool. I speak all these languages. Look at me.” It’s so that I’m able to communicate with a lot of people. There’s a lot of people in different countries that I really want to connect to. There’s different cultures that are really important to me, and if I could learn every language in the world I would I could reach different kinds of people.

When I did the world tour with the Peas, we literally did a country a day. We went everywhere from France to Thailand to Japan to Ethiopia, and it’s really important that I can talk to people, that I can really reach people, and they can know my story and I can listen to their story and help them. I have fans that are in France and they write me in French.

It also influences my music to be able to listen to different music from different countries and understand it and catch the vibe. I love Latin pop. I love old French singers like Edith Piaf. I love so many different kinds of music. I love Portuguese artists, Brazilian drummers. I listen to music from all over the world and it helps you as a producer to listen to sounds and I think it elevates who you are too, to know that there’s a world beyond where you’re living in right now.
