Holiday Girl2Watch#5: Marina Orlova

Name: Marina Orlova

Favorite Holiday Television Special: In Russia there is a show that is broadcast after midnight on New Year’s Eve that is like Saturday Night Live but with musicians and young, new singers sing old songs.  It’s called ‘Ogonek’ which means ‘Little Light.’ That’s always been my favorite holiday show.

Favorite Holiday Meal: Oysters!  When I eat oysters it’s like a holiday for me every single time!  Unlike others who look forward to turkey or ham.. it’s oysters for me!

Favorite Holiday Song: Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt.  Since I pretty much celebrate Christmas by myself these pasts few years, I like to put that song on and pretend that Santa will be buying me house or yacht.

Favorite Holiday Tradition: In Russia we would go with my parents snow sledding!  We would build on our snow slope..  I would put water the night before and then the next day we would take our sled.. you know.. the old fashioned kind with the front rolled back like the lid of a sardine can and we would each take turns going down our own man-made slope!  In addition, if you didn’t get out of the way quickly once you hit the bottom you would end up being flattend by the next person!

Favorite Holiday Character: Snegurochka – she is the granddaughter of Santa Clause and is very pretty. She would help Santa bring the presents to the homes.

Best Holiday Gift Tip: Get something the person wants.. not something that YOU want.  The way to find out what they want is to take them shopping with you a few months earlier and see what kinds of things they look at.

Favorite Way To Spend New Year’s Eve: I’ve decided to from now on, just sleep in.. because the past two years.. once I was stuck in a car by myself trying to get to where I was going when New Years Hit.. the second time I went to the bathroom and there was a line and by the time I got out, I missed it again!  This time I am staying home and sleeping!

Special Holiday Message From Our Favorite Teacher Marina: “I think it’s important for kids to read FUN books as it keeps them reading and helps develop their imagination. Adults should do the same. Too many adults read books they think they should read, self help, etc.. but then they hate the book, never finish it, and end up quitting reading altogether. Read a fun trashy romance novel.. it’s better than not reading at all!”
