Welcome to Girl2Watch!

This week’s editor’s note is much longer then usual, because our girl2watch this week is a little different than our usual profiles.  Ingrid Vanderveldt is one unique woman – part businesswoman, part internet host, part daredevil, part motivational speaker.

Ingrid is a rare person, a true force of nature who manages energize every room she steps into, and inspire every person she meets.  Given that a lot of Ingrid’s hobbies – motorcycle racing, skydiving, are exactly the type of activities I try to avoid, I was resistant at first, but was almost immediately won over by her incredible kindness, generosity, and spirit.

After the interview, Ingrid invited our creative director Alexis and I to come with her to see a live taping of Peter Himmelman’s Internet Show Furious World.  Filmed in a small room in the guest house of his home in Santa Monica, we were part of a very small intimate audience – five people at most.  The guest that night was Judea Pearl, UCLA professor of artificial intelligence and father of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal journalist who was kidnapped and brutally murdered by members of Al-Qaeda in Pakistan in 2002.

During the show, Judea Pearl picked up his acoustic guitar for the first time in almost eight years, (miraculously, it was still in perfect tune), and played a song he used to sing Daniel when he was a child to help him go to sleep. It was an incredibly powerful moment, one I won’t soon forget.  I could go on and on, but it we’d like to thank Ingrid and Peter for having us as guests for that memorable night.  I suggest you check out Peter’s show – you can find more here.
