Daniella Alonso: My Generation
The show is about a group of high school kids who decide to document their senior year. Then 10 years later the kids who are now adults just want to catch up on where they are in their lives and what ended up happening. The way the show is shot is kind of interesting because we go back and forth between 2000 and 2010 and all the years in between.
We tell the stories of what happens in their lives, but also we incorporate real life, historical events. One of the characters was going to be a basketball star, then 9/11 happens and he just drops everything and decides to get into the military and goes over to Iraq.
It’s really cool because it’s shot in an unconventional way. We shoot using all kinds of media. We shot a scene on an Iphone, we tell the story with pictures from an actual film camera, video camera and then of course, the real cameras that we shoot the TV show on. It’s really, really cool the way we shoot it.
The posters? Oh my God, it’s insane. We shoot the show in Austin so I haven’t really been back to LA or New York, just got back two days ago and every single bus stop billboard, it was insane. I’m like, “Oh there’s Kelly, oh there’s Anne, oh there’s Keir.” I see everyone’s face. I just left them in Austin, but we’re all over the place in LA and it’s just, it’s a great feeling. It’s super cool.
