Chiquis: Functional Family
All I know is to be there for my mom. And honestly, I love doing it. I have a passion for it. The main reason why I agreed to do the reality show was because it may seem very dysfunctional from the outside, and I wanted the world to see that we’re normal and that we love each other. Yes, we have problems and we’re not a perfect family, but at the end of the day we have each other’s back and we communicate.
My mom – she’s a great person. A lot of people may think differently because of her rough attitude. She’s very straight and very blunt, but she has a big heart. And I wanted people to see the positive side of our life, the reality of it. It’s the truth. It’s not scripted reality, it’s raw. And yeah, I am like the second mother, but it’s because we’ve gone through so much. Our fathers haven’t been in our lives and we’ve had no other choice.
What did I learn from my Mom? You have to work hard for it and be strong. More than anything – work hard. You’re not going to get everything you want in life. If you fall, you need to get back up. You can’t dwell on things for too long. She’s always showed me not to be a victim, to thrive, and to be a survivor.
More than anything, I admire her for that.
